31 January 2013, 8:20 p.m. - THE UST Golden Sox came up short against defending champion National University, 7-12, in their UAAP tussle at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Thursday afternoon.

UST, which overwhelmed NU in their first-round encounter, slid to third place with a 5-3 card while NU grabbed solo second with a 6-3 card behind Ateneo de Manila University (7-1).

Down by two runs entering the fifth inning (4-6), UST pulled to within one as team captain Glenn Tuazon walked to the home plate when rookie Bernardo Siaotong was hit by pitch, which accounted for a walk to the first base.

But NU's offense proved to be too much for UST as the Golden sox gave away six more runs in the next four innings.

"Mostly it was our errors that hurt us in this game," said coach Jeffrey Santiago.

The Golden Sox will next face De La Salle University on Sunday, 7 a.m. at the same venue.

"We still have hope this season. We just need to beat Ateneo and La Salle," said Santiago. Jose Antonio R. Nisay
