Nov. 7, 2014, 5:56 p.m. – FAITH in the light of mercy
and compassion is the key to a meaningful spiritual journey with Pope Francis.
In an inspirational talk during the spiritual gathering
dubbed “A Nation of Mercy and Compassion” yesterday at Santisimo Rosario Parish
Church, UST Vice Rector for Religious Affairs Fr. Filemon dela Cruz, Jr., O.P.
encouraged the laity to internalize the essence of mercy and compassion, the
theme for the apostolic visit of Pope Francis.
“The Pope’s visit must disturb our hearts in order to
make us think over the things we neglected, to take notice of things such as
love of neighbor,” Dela Cruz said.
Dela Cruz said others might often be blinded by the rewards
of the material world and lose faith, but mercy and compassion would lead them
to the right path.
“When we are blinded, we feel lost, yet compassion
finds a way to restore the sight that had been lost from us,” he said.
The one-day gathering of “prayer, music, fellowship and
reflection,” organized by the UST Theological Society, is in preparation for
the apostolic visit of Pope Francis on Jan. 15 to 19, 2015. Marie
