September 21, 2015, 8:41p.m. – A COMIC book series about young
people battling the forces of evil will soon be available in bookstores
nationwide.
“Patron Comics” revolves around the lives of
teenagers who assist their priest-mentor in exorcism rites, as they do their
best to solve their own personal struggles.
The 68-page comic book, written by pro-life advocate Anthony
James Perez and published by Regina Caeli Publishing, aims to reinforce the
Catholic faith and values among younger generations.
The comic book, which had the assistance of the Archdiocese
of Manila’s exorcism ministry, will help dispel wrong notions about exorcism,
Perez said.
“What we take pride of in the book is that it corrects false
motions about exorcism. It also [tells readers to] avoid the use of the Ouija
board and other rituals that are prone to demonic attacks,” Perez said in an
interview following the comic book’s launching last Saturday at the Don Bosco
Technical Institute in Makati.
UST Secretary General Fr. Winston Cabading, O.P., who is
part of the Archdiocese of Manila’s exorcism ministry, said human weaknesses
give opportunity for evil to take over.
“The evil one has only one agendum and that is our own
destruction. When these inner demons become cultivated in your heart [and not
surrendered] to the Lord, you will be taken away from God which will be very
difficult,” Fr. Cabading told the Varsitarian.
Fr. Cabading wrote the foreword for the book.
The people behind Patron Comics include penciller Gilmond
Monsanto, inker Raymond Ferrer and editor Jay Acosta.
Bangued Bishop Leopoldo Jaucian, chairman of the Catholic
Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP)-Commission on Youth, has
commended the comic book for “participating creatively in the New
Evangelization.”
In a December 2014 letter, Jaucian described Patron Comics
as “100% entertainment fused with 100% catechism,” because it aids the youth in
understanding the sacraments and fulfilling Christian duties.
Patron comic books will be sold in bookstores nationwide
