October 5, 2015, 11:00 p.m. – PRAYING the Holy Rosary involves meditating on its mysteries to find the space meant for God’s grace.

The
importance of prayers especially in times of hardships was highlighted
during the Solemnity of Our Lady of the Rosary last Oct. 4 at the
Santisimo Rosario Parish. The parish fiesta had the theme “Inang Maria,
Ina ng Awa.”

Fr. Rolando Castro,
O.P., head of the Priory of St. Thomas Aquinas in UST, said prayers
serve as opportunities to communicate with the Blessed Virgin Mary.

“In
the nine days of our novena to Our Lady of the Rosary, I think we are
given nine opportunities to ask our Lady the petitions we wish to obtain
through her intercession,” Fr. Castro said.

Fr. Castro also said praying the Holy Rosary is an attempt to memorialize the milestones in the shared lives of Jesus and Mary.

“In
praying it, we attempt to insert our lives into it. In the process of
meditating in the mysteries of the rosary, we open ourselves to God’s
grace in order for us to see the answers to our prayers,” he said.

Fr.
Castro said the image of Our Lady of the Rosary holding the Child Jesus
symbolizes the Blessed Mother’s compassion. He reminded the faithful
that blessings don’t stop on the last day of the novena held prior to
the feast.
“Tanggapin natin ito. Sa ating pagtanggap kay Mariang Ina
ng Awa, hindi lang tayo tanggap ng tanggap ng awa, we should share. Ang
pagdating ng biyaya ay nagpapatuloy even after this,” he said.

A
procession of the image of the Nuestra Señora del Santisimo Rosario and
Dominican saints and martyrs was held after the Holy Mass.

Candles
lighted up the evening as hundreds of devotees–students, faculty
members and parishioners–took part in the two-hour procession while
praying the Holy Rosary.

Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated on the first Sunday of October, to
mark the decisive victory of the Christian fleet in 1571 at the Battle
of Lepanto. Krystel Nicole A. Sevilla
