October 13, 2015, 4:57p.m. – UST RECTOR Fr. Herminio Dagohoy, O.P. will deliver his tri-annual rector’s report at the Medicine Auditorium on Oct. 16 at 9:00 a.m.

Fr. Dagohoy, the 96th rector of UST, is expected to enumerate accomplishments for the past years including the establishment of new departments and administrative functions, construction of new buildings, academic linkages and internationalization, enhancement of research capacity, and sustaining UST’s presence in the Quacquarelli-Symonds Asian and global rankings, among others.

Classes will be suspended on the day of Fr. Dagohoy’s report, from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., to allow the Thomasian community to witness the Rector’s first report covering academic years 2012-2013 to 2014-2015.

In a previous interview with the Varsitarian, Fr. Dagohoy described his administration as a “transitory period.” The University will go through the K to 12 transition beginning 2016, when high school students will spend two more years in senior high school or grades 11 and 12, instead of graduating to college. Because of this, UST will offer only 13 programs to freshmen next year.

The K to 12 transition will reduce college teaching loads beginning next year, displacing faculty members. Some faculty members will be transferred to the UST Senior High School (SHS) which has set an enrollment target of 5,000 students for 2016.

Other measures to cushion the impact of K to 12 include allowing professors to do office work, take research loads, or go on sabbatical or study leaves.

Fr. Dagohoy will end his term next year, but he is still eligible for another term. Fr. Dagohoy, a former internal auditor and director of finance and administration of UST Hospital, took over the rectorship in 2012.

The Rector is a member of the Scientific Council of the French Biblical and Archaeological School of Jerusalem, and head of the Association of South East and East Asian Catholic Colleges and Universities, an association promoting Catholic higher education in the region.

Fr. Dagohoy had served as prior of the Priory of St. Thomas Aquinas in UST and prior of Santo Domingo Convent which oversees the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of La Naval. He was also the chief finance officer of UST Hospital and the ninth rector and president of Angelicum College in Quezon City. Jerome P. Villanueva
