November 18, 2015, 9:25p.m. – PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III has appointed four new Court of Appeals (CA) justices, including a professor from the UST Faculty of Civil Law.

Lawyer Gabriel Robeniol, who teaches Alternative Dispute Resolution in Civil Law, took his oath of office before Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno last Monday, Nov. 16. He assumed the post left by Justice Isaias Dicdican.

Robeniol, a partner at the Feria Tantoco Robeniol Law Offices, is a former associate solicitor at the Office of the Solicitor General. Robeniol finished law in UST, magna cum laude. He holds an economics degree, also from UST.

Aquino also named Marikina Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Geraldine Fiel-Macaraig, Makati RTC Judge Perpetua Atal-Paño and Manila RTC Judge Ruben Reynaldo Roxas to the posts vacated by Justices Rebecca de Guia-Salvador, Abdulwahid Hakim and Michael Elbinias respectively.

The president informed the chief justice of his new appointments through separate transmittal letters signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr.

The President picked the four appointees from a shortlist prepared by the Judicial and Bar Council, the body that recommends appointees to the Supreme Court and other courts.

The Court of Appeals, consisting of 69 associate justices and a presiding justice, is the second highest court in the country after the Supreme Court. Alhex Adrea M. Peralta
