9 February 2016, 7:12 pm – JUST three days after withdrawing his candidacy, Thomasian
presidential candidate Roy Señeres died Monday at the age of 68.
Señeres, a self-proclaimed “pro-life” candidate, had
been admitted to the intensive care unit of St. Luke’s Medical Center in
Taguig, where he died of cardiac arrest due to complications from diabetes.
Señeres, a political
science alumnus of the Faculty of Arts and Letters, declared his run for the
presidency on Oct. 20, 2014 in his hometown, Butuan. He filed his candidacy on
Oct. 11, 2015 under the Partido ng Manggawa at Magsasaka.
In a statement on Feb. 5 announcing his withdrawal, he said: “I
wish to inform you that after much thought and prayers to the God Almighty, I
am hereby announcing my withdrawal from the Philippine presidential race. I do
so with the blessings of my family and upon the recommendation of my doctor who
has advised me to avoid stress due to my long-standing diabetes as to prevent
the complications thereof.”
A former ambassador to United Arab Emirates, Señeres won a seat
in the House of Representatives in the 2013 elections, under the Overseas
