February 10, 2016, 8:27p.m. – A THOMASIAN placed eighth in the recent licensure examinations for physical therapists (PT), where a total of 11 UST examinees made the cut out of 12.

UST registered a 91.67-percent passing rate, lower than the 94.12 percent recorded last year in which 16 passed out 17 Thomasian examinees, results from the Professional Regulation Commission showed.

Alumna Ruth Deborah Malapit placed eighth in the recent PT board exams with a score of 85 percent.

Former Varsitarian photographer Josa Camille Bassig also passed the boards. 

In the separate licensure exam for occupational therapists (OT), UST obtained a 50-percent passing rate, with six Thomasians passing the exams out of 12.

The University of the Philippines (UP)-Manila continued to dominate both licensure examinations with 100-percent passing rates. Last year, UST placed second behind UP-Manila on the list of top-performing schools in OT with a passing rate 93.33 percent (14 out of 15 examinees), versus UP’s 100 percent.

The national passing rate for physical therapists improved to 57.13 percent this year (521 out of 912 examinees), from last year’s 53.79 percent (412 out of 766 examinees).

For OT, the national passing rate declined to 53.92 percent (55 out of 102 examinees) from 62.07 percent (54 out of 87 examinees) in 2015. Alhex Adrea M. Peralta
