26 November 2012, 11:06 p.m. – UST overtook UP and two other universities to become the top-performing school in the recent licensure examinations for teachers (LET) in the secondary level.
The University registered a 96.39-percent passing rate with 160 out of 166 examinees making the cut. This was a huge jump from last year’s fourth place when the University got an 88.26-percent passing rate, with 218 passers out of 247 examinees.
UST bested University of the Philippines-Diliman (96.10 percent), Philippine Normal Unversity-Manila (92.96 percent) and Xavier University (89.86 percent).
There were no Thomasians in the top 10.
This year’s national passing rate improved to 43.50 percent from last year’s 31.45 percent. Of 47,892 who took the exam this year, 20,834 passed. In 2011, 13,125 out of 41,729 examinees passed.
Meanwhile, UST slipped down one notch in the LET-elementary level list of top-performing schools.
UST got a 98.55-percent passing rate with 136 passers out of 138 examinees.
Last year, the University was the No. 1 school, posting a 97.59-percent passing rate with 81 successful examinees out of 83.
The national passing rate also jumped to 49.29 percent, with 25,136 passers out of 50,997 examinees. Last year’s passing rate was 22.68 percent as only 10,243 out of 45,171 passed the exam. Nikka Lavinia G. Valenzuela
