Thomasian fashion designer dies at 65

DANILO Franco, known as the “Dean of Fashion Illustrators,” died last Jan. 31 following cardiac arrest. He was 65.

Franco passed away at the UST Hospital emergency room after going into coma.

He took up fine arts major in advertising at the old College of Fine Arts and Architecture.

While studying, he worked as a layout artist for the Philippine Daily Express where he met fellow artists like Hugo Yonzon and Thomasian Manuel Baldemor.

Franco decided to work in the fashion industry in the late 1970s. He was well-known for his hand-painted fabric art.

His evening gowns were worn by candidates in this year’s Miss Universe pageant.

Franco mentored students of fashion illustration and design at the De La Salle College of St. Benilde and at the SoFA Design Institute in Makati.

His wake is at the Sanctuarium on Araneta Avenue, Quezon City. Klimier Nicole B. Adriano
