A Conservatory of Music alumna treated opera lovers to a pre-Valentine concert in “A Night of Love: An Evening of Opera Love Songs and Duets” last Feb. 10 at the Ayala Museum.

Soprano Mheco Manlangit shared the stage with tenor Arthur Espiritu and another soprano, Stefanie Quintin.

“It’s always exciting to perform because I get to do what I love,” Manlangit, who debuted at the same venue in September last year, told the Varsitarian.

For her solo performance, Manlangit belted out Georges Bizet’s “Je dis que rien ne m’epouvante,” an aria from the tragic opera “Carmen,” and Gaetano Donizetti’s “O luce di qust’anima,” from the melodrama “Linda di chamounix.”

She blended harmonies with Espiritu and Quintin in Donizetti’s “Tornami a dir che m’ami” and Vincenzo Bellini’s “Mira o Norma,” which come from the operas “Don Pasquale” and “Norma,” respectively.

“I rely on my teacher when it comes to choosing the right songs, as I have a tendency to sing big roles. We’re avoiding that because I’m still young; my voice is still young,” Manlangit said.

A fresh graduate, Manlangit was the sole winner of the 2017 Singapore International Festival of Music Competition.

She made her professional debut through the Cultural Arts Events Organizer concert series titled “Youth on Stage.”
