THOMASIAN sports journalist and communication arts alumna Jane Bracher is among the three Filipino awardees of this year’s British Council International English Language Teaching System (IELTS) Prize.

Bracher, along with Yla Paras and Joseph Talampas, was given P140,000 for post-graduate studies abroad.

Bracher, who graduated in 2011, is a scholar of the University of Westminster in the United Kingdom, where she will pursue graduate studies in multimedia journalism.

“I’ve been covering sports for the last four years at Rappler and I would like to step outside of my comfort zone to cover other beats and issues I’m passionate about, such as women’s rights, equality, climate change, and the refugee crisis,” she told the Varsitarian.

This British Council IELTS Prize started in 2011 and has helped fund the post-graduate education of 170 students in the East Asian region.
