AN AUTHOR from the UST Publishing House (USTPH) launched a comic book in Komikon, the Philippine convention of comic enthusiasts, last Nov. 18 at Bayanihan Center in Pasig.‬

‪Fictionist Sarge Lacuesta’s “Stay” is a collection of 21 comic stories delving into horror, violence, romance and sex.

‪“Writing the book was hard but liberating. [T]he artists I worked with were really good. They were able to shell out numerous nuisances in the stories that I never realized were there,” Lacuesta said.

‪Lacuesta, who collaborated with 17 illustrators, called on Filipinos to continuously support the comic book industry.‬

‪“The artists I had the privilege to work with have so much talent. That’s why I can say the industry needs support, just like how film and literature need support. And so, the Filipino artists are really leading the way to creativity,” he explained.‬

‪Lacuesta also authored the comic book “Open Doors, Open Hearts,” which tackled the late President Manuel Quezon’s Open Door policy during World War II.

His “Coral Cove and Other Stories,” published by the USTPH, won Best Book of Short Fiction during the 37th National Book Awards.
