THE UST Museum launched a month-long exhibit on Feb. 12 to commemorate Pope Francis’ visit to the University last Jan.18.

The exhibit, titled “@UST: Lolo Kiko Brings Christ to the Youth,” features memorabilia of the Pontiff’s visit to the only Pontifical university in Asia.

These include photographs, hand-written letters, newspaper clippings, various types of merchandise such as shirts and caps, and personal items used by the Pontiff himself.

Five papal chairs used by all three popes who had visited UST served as the exhibit’s centerpieces. Blessed Pope Paul VI was the first pope to visit the University in 1970, followed by Pope St. John Paul II in 1981 and 1995. Pope Francis went to UST as part of a five-day apostolic and state visit last Jan. 15 to 19.

Vice Rector Fr. Richard Ang, O.P. and UST Museum Director Fr. Isidro Abaño, O.P., together with veteran journalists Tina Monzon-Palma of ANC, Thomasian alumnus Arnold Clavio of GMA, Doland Castro of ABS-CBN, and Varsitarian editor in chief Ralph Joshua Hernandez led the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“After the event, you should have good memories [because] memories keep your spirits alive. Let’s hope the students will have a deeper reflection on what really happened,” Abaño said during a press conference.

The exhibit is at the ground floor of the Main Building and will be open for public viewing until March 28. Dayanara T. Cudal
