A FORMER dean of the Faculty of Arts and Letters will represent the World Union of Catholic Teachers (WUCT) before the United Nations (UN) and other world organizations until 2018.

Political science professor Belen Tangco, Artlets dean from 2003 to 2006, was named delegate to the UN by the WUCT with the concurrence of the Vatican’s Congregation for Catholic Education.

Tangco, a member of the UST Graduate School Faculty Council, is the president of the Dominican Laity Provincial Council. She served as the international coordinator of the International Council of Lay Dominican Fraternities in 2013.

Tangco has been with the WUCT since 1995. She has organized the International Congress for Catholic Educators in Bangkok, Thailand in 2002.

She also authored two religious books: “A Pilgrim’s Way of the Cross” in 2003 and “In His Presence” in 2002, both published by the UST Publishing House.

The WUCT or the Union Mondiale Des Enseignants Catholiques, established in 1951, is a nongovernment organization of the Catholic Teachers’ Association. It has 26 member-associations and operates in 28 countries in Asia, Europe, North America, and South America.
