Veteran newsman Rosauro “Roy” Acosta died on Aug. 4 at the Philippine Heart Center following cardiac arrest. He was 75 years old.
Acosta obtained his bachelor’s degree from UST in 1961.
He served as editor in chief of Business Mirror and managing editor of the Philippine Daily Inquirer from 1987 to 1991.
Acosta began his career in journalism in 1964 as a news writer for the radio station dzHP. He became the diplomatic and Malacañang reporter for the Philippines Herald, which was shut down in 1972.
Xeres Jasmine G. Acosta, granddaughter of Acosta and a UST journalism alumna, described her late grandfather as the “epitome of a newsman” for his dedication to the profession.
“He had dedicated his life to truth and fairness in reporting. He was a mentor to many writers and journalists,” Guia told the Varsitarian in an online interview.
“It gave us much comfort to hear his former staff or reporters tell us they learned so much from him, that he was the ‘best boss’ and mentor,” she said.
Acosta’s cremated remains will be interred on Aug. 8 at the Himlayang Pilipino in Quezon City.
