THOMASIAN artists again reaped honors for the University for their artworks during the 19th Metrobank Young Painters’ Annual National Painting Competition last September.
Painting graduate Cecile Oliveros placed second with “Barren Scapes” in the watercolor category while College of Architecture alumnus Noli Manalang was honarable mention for Itinadhana in the same category.
Meanwhile, Painting alumnus Oliver Abe Ramos’ Sighs was a finalist in the oil on canvas category.
Other Thomasians from the College of Fine Arts and Design who received citations in the competition included Melvin Culaba for Global, Mark Magugat for Farewell and Goodnight, Jaime Jesus Paceña for Requiem, and Mark Ramsel Salvatus III for Don’t Hate Me Cause I’m Beautiful in the oil on canvas category, and Vincent Darby Alcoseba for Light Speaks the Reality of Time in the watercolor category.
Some 735 paintings from around the country were entered in the Metrobank Foundation-sponsored competition.
Nestor Jardin, Cultural Center of the Philippines president, is the chairman of the this year’s board of judges. Other judges included art critic Emmanuel Torres, National Museum director and UST Graduate School professor Corazon Alvina, and renowned artists Noell El Rarol and Romulo Galicano.
