UST tracksters keep top spot

THE UST Female Tracksters solidified their place at the top after collecting six medals in Day 2 of the UAAP Season 79 athletics tournament while their male counterparts added two medals at the PhilSports Arena Thursday.

Reigning Most Valuable Player Karen Janario reigned in the 200-meter sprint while teammate Eloisa Luzon settled for silver.

Lambert Padua clocked in 52:59.35 in the 1000-meter walk for the men’s squad’s lone gold of the day.

The Female Trackster went 2-of-3 in the women’s triple jump event with Judy Mae Almasa and Alyssa Marie Andrade notching silver and bronze, respectively.

Sarah Dequinian’s attempt in the women’s javelin throw landed her a silver medal, while Xianne Miranda collected a bronze in the women’s shotput behind a 7.93-meter throw.

Kevin Capangpangan recorded 34:06.65 in the 10000-meter run to capture bronze.

“Marami pang events ang hindi pa tapos. Kung katulad ng nangyari sa araw na ito, walang mangyayari sa men’s team natin,” assistant coach Ming Liu told the Varsitarian.

The Female Tracksters now have a total of 11 medals (3-5-3 gold-silver-bronze) while the Male Tracksters have garnered six medals (2-1-3 gold-silver-bronze).

UAAP athletics action will continue today at the same venue.
