THE UST Male Shuttlers kept their Final Four hopes alive after besting the Adamson University, 5-0, on Sunday, Oct. 1.

They will have to beat third-seed Ateneo de Manila University on Thursday to qualify for a playoff in the fourth spot.

The UST Female Shuttlers remained winless after losing to the University of the East, 3-2.

The Male Shuttlers improved to fifth place with a 2-3 record while their female counterparts dropped to eighth with a 0-5 record.

The duo of Russel Enriquez and Josh Olin Defensor gave UST a 3-0 advantage after mauling Adamson’s Kevin Fabros and Jhonrick Macabenta, 26-24, 21-17.

John Edgar Reyes completed the sweep for UST after escaping Macabenta in the fifth match, 18-21, 24-22, 21-14.

“[Sa male] expected ko naman [yung result] with Adamson. [Sa female] nagkatalo sa kung sino yung gusto manalo. Talagang nagkataon na gusto manalo ng ibang players,” UST head coach RJ Ormilla said.

In women’s play, UST’s Venice Angelic Panotes surged past Lady Warrior Denise Eryka Labay in the first game, 21-18, 14-21, 21-19.

UE sisters Lyra Jane and Heidi Rosal forced a rubber match after routing the UST pair of Panotes and Evan Mariksha Teope, 21-12, 21-15.

Lyra Jane sealed UE’s win after surviving Pimentel in a 16-21, 21-19, 21-16 thriller.

The women’s team will close out the season against Ateneo on Oct. 5, Thursday, at the same venue.
