THE UST Golden Sox clinched their sixth straight victory at the expense of the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 8-1, in the UAAP Season 79 baseball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Sunday.
Golden Sox ace pitcher Lesmar Ventura had a prolific day at the mound and held UP to just one run throughout the game.
“Di ko expected na hindi makapupuntos ang UP dahil malakas ang opensa nila. Maganda ang pinukol ng pitcher natin pero sa opensa natin nag-relax sila,” UST head coach Jeffrey Santiago told the Varsitarian.
Karl Peralta converted a run via a Miguel Balagtas’ hit to put the Fighting Maroons up the scoreboard but Golden Sox’s Alwen Calbang and Marlon Gonzales completed all the bases, 7-1.
A Christian Dela Cruz run at the top of the ninth inning put the icing in the cake for UST.
The Golden Sox (6-2) will play their penultimate game of the season against the Adamson University on March 8, Wednesday, at the same venue.
