THE UST Golden Sox came up short against the Adamson University, 6-8, at the end the elimination round of the UAAP Season 79 baseball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Wednesday.

It was a non-bearing game for UST as the Golden Sox, who slid to second place, already secured a seat in the finals.

With the game tied at 6-all in the 12th inning, the Falcons secured the win with two go-ahead runs.

“Hindi naman na gaanong importante ‘yung game na ‘to. Top seed man tayo o second, finals pa rin naman,” UST coach Jeffrey Santiago told the Varsitarian.

“Ginamit ko rin ‘yung bench players natin para malaman natin kung paano sila gagalaw sa finals, exposure na rin ‘to para sa kanila,” he added.

The Falcons could have ended the match by the 10th inning after Gerald Riparip’s run. But UST’s Marlon Gonzales’ conversion off Jefferson Vergara’s run-batted-in tied the match at 6-all.

Alwen Calbang, Elijah Pagkaliwagan and Pedracio’s conversions in fifth and sixth inning built UST a 5-3 cushion before Riparip and Steven Manaig forced a 5-all deadlock.

UST will face the Ateneo in Game 1 of a best-of-three finals on March 21, Tuesday, 12 noon, at the same venue.
