THE UST Golden Sox banked on Ron Christian de la Cruz’ heroics and fended off the Adamson University Soaring Falcons, 2-0 in the UAAP Season 80 baseball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Wednesday.
De la Cruz hit a home run at the bottom of the seventh inning to give UST its third win in four games.
De la Cruz also hit a run-batted-in double that sent Gio Martinez to home plate at the bottom of the first inning for a 1-0 lead.
“Ang inaasahan ko talaga ngayon is ‘yung pitcher ko (Dela Cruz)… Alam ko weakness (ng Adamson), ‘yung down curve na paloob,” UST head coach Jeff Santiago said.
De la Cruz also registered three strikeouts.
Santaigo praised de la Cruz for playing all the nine innings today.
Adamson’s Jerome Yenson had a chance to equalize the game at the top of the sixth inning but failed to complete the run.
With a 3-1 record, the Golden Sox tied Adamson, De La Salle University and defending champions Ateneo de Manila University at first seed.
The Golden Sox will next face Ateneo on Feb. 18, Sunday, at the same venue.
