COACH Pido Jarencio showed up at the UST Growling Tigers’ Christmas party Friday, fueling talk that he could be set to return as their chief tactician.

Jarencio, who steered the Tigers to the UAAP title in 2006, said he’s open to the job but was yet to discuss the matter with athletics director, Fr. Ermito de Sagon, O.P.

“Kung vacant ‘yung position, gusto kong bumalik, gusto kong tulungan ‘yung UST,” said Jarencio, who serves as the alternate governor of Globalport Batang Pier in the PBA.

“[Gusto ko na] na umakyat tayo ulit [sa standings] at the same time, ‘yung ma-involve natin lahat ng estudyante [at] alumni ulit [at] ma-encourage natin na manood sila.”

The Tigers finished Season 79 at the bottom of the standings with a 3-11 record, their worst since the Final Four format was introduced in the league.

Jarencio steered the Tigers to back-to-back finals appearances in 2012 and 2013.

He was then hired as Globalport head coach in 2014 and later joined the team management.
