THE UST Tiger Cubs shocked the playoff-bound Far Eastern University Baby Tamaraws with a come-from-behind 54-52 win in the UAAP Season 79 juniors’ basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan Tuesday.

Down by seven points with 2:09 remaining in the game, 45-52, UST scored eight straight points, highlighted by Inand Fornillos’ putback at the 51.8 mark, to take a 53-52 lead.

FEU’s Daniel Celzo missed a pair of layups as UST walked away the victory.

Cansino spearheaded the Tiger Cubs with 20 points and 8 rebounds while Fornillos pulled down 15 boards on top of his seven points.

“’Yung character ng mga players, nandito na. Hindi sila napapagod, kahit lamang ng seven points ang FEU, hindi tayo nara-rattle,” UST head coach Chris Cantonjos told the Varsitarian.

UST scored 14 points off FEU’s 23 turnovers.

Xyrus Torres led the Baby Tamaraws with a 9 points.

The Tiger Cubs (4-7) are trailing fourth-seed Ateneo de Manila University, which has a 5-5 record.

The Tiger Cubs will face defending champions National University Bullpups on Saturday, Jan. 28, 3 p.m., at the same venue.
