THE ADAMSON University Baby Falcons thrashed the UST Tiger Cubs, 92-58, in the UAAP Season 79 boys’ basketball tournament at the Arena in San Juan Wednesday.

Adamson led from the get-go erecting a 24-point advantage by halftime before pushing the lead to 40 midway the fourth period, 84-44.

The Baby Falcons shot 45 percent from the field and converted UST’s 33 turnovers into 23 fastbreak points. Adamson committed 22 errors.

“Mabagal ‘yung naging simula namin tapos hindi na kami naka-recover. Number one [na pagkukulang] ay ‘yung depensa namin, hindi kami nakakababa kaagad kaya na-layup-an kami nang na-layup-an,” UST head coach Chris Cantonjos told the Varsitarian.

Abadiano led all scorers with 27 points while Jose Antiporda had 11 for Adamson.

Inand Fornillos and Miguel Ratuiste paced UST with 10 markers apiece.

Adamson led the standings after sweeping the first round.

But it dropped to a league-worst 1-12 record after the the UAAP board forfeited its first 12 games because MVP candidate Encho Serrano was deemed ineligible to suit up for the Baby Falcons.

The Tiger Cubs are still in the hunt for a Final Four spot with a 5-8 slate.

Should UST win its last game against the University of the East Junior Warriors on Saturday, Feb. 4, and La Salle drops one of its remaining two games, the Tiger Cubs will secure a playoff for fourth place.
