THE UST Tiger Cubs vanquished the University of the East Junior Red Warriors, 104-63, for their second straight win in the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup at the Arena in San Juan Wednesday.

Already leading by 20 points at the start of second half, UST ignited a 19-2 run to take a 70-33 lead in the third quarter.

A lone UE field goal, a corner triple by Darvin Policarpio, roke the run.

UST had its biggest lead of the game at 52 points, 92-40, following a short stab from Liam Manabat with a little over eight minutes in the game.

“Malaki ang nakuha nating impact sa [mga susunod] na games kasi tumaas ang morale ng bata … kahit sinong ipasok mo nagdedeliver,” UST head coach Chris Catonjos told the Varsitarian.

The Tiger Cubs shot an impressive 55 percent from the field while limiting UE to just 31 percent and had a field day in the assist department by dishing out 26 assists compared to the Junior Red Warriors’ 11.

TJ Dela Cruz had 19 points and 12 boards to lead UST while all Tiger Cubs who entered the game scored at least a field goal.

Leonell Almacen paced UE with 16 points.

The Tiger Cubs will face UAAP defending champions Far Eastern University-FERN Baby Tamaraws on Friday, May 19, 9:30 a.m., at the same venue.
