THE UST Tiger Cubs withstood a late rally by the University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) Junior Maroons, 75-70, to stay undefeated in 11th Filoil Flying V Premier Preseason Cup at the Arena in San Juan Sunday.
After the Junior Maroons cut a 10-point deficit to six in the fourth quarter, 69-63, Kobe Palencia buried a tripple to give UST a comfortable nine-point cushion.
“Dahil sa experience na nakuha natin [sa past few games,] hindi na sila nararattle. Lamang pa tayo kaya kailangan na lang naming itawid ang bola at i-execute ng maayos [ang play],” said UST head coach Chris Cantonjos.
Tiger Cub Paolo Hernandez had a double-double outing of 17 points and 13 rebounds while Palencia chipped in 13 markers.
King Vegiere scored a game-high 18 points on top of nine rebounds in a losing effort.
UST’s record remained unblemished in four games while UPIS chalked up its fourth loss in five outings.
The Tiger Cubs will face NCAA juniors champion Mapua-Malayan Red Robins on Monday, June 12, 9:30 a.m., at the same venue.
