THE UST Tiger Cubs crashed out of the semifinals of the 11th Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup following a 67-79 loss to the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eaglets at the Arena in San Juan yesterday (Friday).
With the game tied at 49 heading into the final period, the Eaglets broke the game wide open off a 19-6 run to book their ticket to the finals.
UST held on to a 38-33 lead at the half before Ateneo outscored the Cubs in the third quarter, 16-11, for a 49-all deadlock.
SJ Belangel had a game-high 20 points for Ateneo while Dave Idelfonso had 13 markers and 14 boards.
Kobe Palencia and UST team captain CJ Balingit combined for 31 points while Paolo Hernandez added 13 points and 13 rebounds.
“Kaya tayo sumali dito para mag-gain ng experience at mabuo ‘yung camaraderie ng mga bata,” UST head coach Chris Cantonjos told the Varsitarian.
The Cubs will face the Nazareth School of National University Bullpups for the Battle for Third game on Sunday, June 25, 12 p.m., at same venue.
