THE UST Growling Tigresses remained unbeaten after thrashing the Adamson University Lady Falcons, 75-66, in the UAAP Season 80 women’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Saturday.

It was sweet revenge for the Tigresses, who lost a Final Four spot to Adamson last season.

UST led 73-65 late in the fourth, when an unsportsmanlike foul was called on Lady Falcon Jamie Alcoy, erasing all chances of an Adamson comeback.

“Actually, [maganda] ‘yung consistency ng dalawa[Angeles at Larosa]. ‘Yung mga perimeter ko wala akong masasabi pero ‘yung poste namin they have to work hard,” head coach Haydee Ong told the Varsitarian.

Down 34-35 in the third frame, UST went on a 17-4 blitz to lead by as much as 12, 51-39.

Jhenn Angeles led the Tigresses with 22 points while Sai Larosa dropped a double-double with 16 markers and 17 rebounds.

Lady Falcon Jamie Alcoy paced Adamson with 14 points while Kristeena Camacho followed with 13 markers.

The Tigresses converted the Lady Falcons’ 32 turnovers into 19 easy points. They also tallied 28 fastbreak points.

UST will try to upset defending champions National University on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 10 a.m., at the Mall of Asia Arena.
