THE UST Growling Tigresses suffered a 30-point shellacking against defending champions National University Lady Bulldogs, 95-65, in the UAAP Season 80 women’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Wednesday.

A 17-0 NU run buried UST, 88-61, in the last six minutes of the payoff period.

“Bumigay [tayo.] That is the term. Very frustrating for us coaches [because] we have prepared them for that game,” UST coach Haydee Ong said.

Trixie Antiquera led NU with 27 points while Animam had 23 markers and 18 rebounds.

Tigress Anjel Annies paced UST with 18 markers while Bets Peñaflor and Jhenn Angeles chipped in 14 and 13, respectively.

The Lady Bulldogs made good use of their height advantage and outrebounded UST, 45-32.

The Growling Tigresses now hold a 2-1 win-loss slate

UST will next face the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws on Sept. 23, Saturday, 10 a.m., at the same venue.
