COACH Aldin Ayo confirmed his departure from De La Salle University, but remained mum on whether he would move to UST to guide the Growling Tigers.

“The reason why I kept mum is because of an agreement not to disclose any information before the first week of January or until the school makes its official statement,” he posted on Twitter yesterday.

In leaving La Salle, which he guided to the UAAP title two seasons ago, Ayo cited “different views in handling the team,” and said: “I’ve always done what is necessary.”

News of Ayo’s supposed transfer to UST came out in late December.

Two Varsitarian sources said UST backers had been in talks with Ayo, but no formal meeting with University officials had been made.

The sources said Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (IPEA) officials were set to announce the new head coach of the Tigers in mid-January.

Ayo is expected to return to Manila on Jan. 5 from his hometown Sorsogon City.

  1. I hope that UST management will decide to take in a Thomasian coach, a coach that has played for the University, a coach that has loyalty and commitment to UST, a coach that will teach good sports and life values to UST players, a coach that is a practitioner of true amateurism in sports avoiding piracy and other maneuvers considered not in the best interest of UST or may put USTs Catholic, Pontifucal, and Royal reputation in question.
