UST’S beach volleyball teams pounded Far Eastern University to bag the gold medals in the UAAP Season 79 beach volleyball tournament at the Sands at SM by the Bay Sunday.
The Tiger Spikers whipped FEU, 21-16, 21-16, in Game 2 of their finals, ending three straight years of silver finishes.
The Lady Spikers reclaimed the crown they last won in 2014 after blasting FEU, 21-17, 21-10, in their do-or-die Game 3.
UAAP Most Valuable Players Kris Roy Guzman and Cherry Ann Rondina dropped 18 and 22 points, respectively.
The Tiger Spikers went on a 5-2 run to seal the championship with a down-the-line hit from Guzman.
After surrendering Game 2, 21-17, 17-21 and 13-15, the Lady Spikers finished Game 3 with a 12-4 spurt capped by Rondina’s ace.
“Pinaghandaan namin ito ng sobrang tagal so ine-expect ko na umabot kami hanggang dulo. Mas mahirap ‘yung training na kinuha ng mga bata kaya sa dulo, mauubos ang kalaban,” UST coach Paul Jan Doloiras told the Varsitarian.
