CHERRY Ann Rondina has cemented her legacy as the queen of UAAP sands after winning her third beach volleyball championship and Most Valuable Player award in four years.

The Lady Spikers dominated the FEU Lady Tamaraws, 21-15, 21-19, in Game 2 of the finals to complete their tournament sweep last Oct. 14.

Rondina has won the crown with three different partners: Rica Jane Rivera in 2014, Jem Guttierez in 2016 and Caitlyn Viray this year.

“Ine-enjoy ko naman ang laro tsaka malaki ang pagtitiwala ko sa partner ko. Lagi kong pinapakita sa kanya kung gaano ka-importante ang liga na ito,” Rondina said.

Rondina has now completed her quest for back-to-back crowns after besting the Lady Tamaraws, who had long-time UST beach volleyball head coach Emil Lontoc at the helm.

“Medyo na-challenge ako kasi knowing coach Em (Lontoc), alam natin kung paano [siya] magpa-lakas ng player. Isa kami sa mga napalakas niya,” she said.

UST head coach Paul Jan Doloiras praised “sparkplug” Rondina, citing her beach volleyball stint as one factor for her dominant play in the taraflex.

Rondina will play her last UAAP season next year alongside Viray.

“Magta-trabaho lang kami (para sa championship). Marami pa rin kaming makakalaban kaya trabaho lang kami,” she said.
