THE UST Male and Female Woodpushers absorbed back-to-back defeats against the Far Eastern University in the UAAP Season 79 chess tournament at the De La Salle University Henry Sy Hall Sunday.
The Male and Female Woodpushers both dropped 0.5-3.5 decisions against the Tamaraws which put them at third and fifth places, respectively.
UST’s Christian Flores settled for a draw against FEU’s Jose Castro while Heirry Manaloto, Jhon Ablid and Normel De Jesus all dropped their matches.
Highzzy Manaloto salvaged a draw against FEU’s Marife Dela Torre as Michella Concio, May Ann Alcantara, Cyamir Villanueva lost to their respective opponents.
“Positive pa rin kami na makakaya namin kahit hanggang third,” said Female Woodpusher May Ann Alcantara.
The Male Woodpushers now have 22 points which landed them behind NU (31) and FEU (28.5) while the Female Woodpushers (18) are lurking behind La Salle (32.5), FEU (32), UE (19.5) and Adamson (19).
