The UST Tiger Fencers bagged two gold medals, one silver and a bronze after two days of the UAAP Season 79 fencing tournament at the Quadricentennial Pavilion Thursday.

Men’s team captain Noelito Jose won gold in the individual epee following a 15-7 win over University of the East’s Marlow Osayan.

Women’s team captain Maylene Pailma lorded it over the individual sabre event with a 15-10 victory over UE’s Allein Cortey.

Angelo Ramos bagged silver in the men’s individual sabre against UE’s Christian Concepcion.

Dennis Gascon settled for bronze in the men’s individual epee after bowing out to Osayan in the semifinals, 10-15.

“Kung ano ang ine-expect naming nag-gold, nanalo naman. Sa ibang events, alam natin na sobrang lakas ng UE at nakuha ang gold at silver kaya nag-settle kami sa bronze,” Jose told the Varsitarian.L.

Timothy Dale Gonzales won UST’s lone silver in junior’s play. Franchesca Yadao, Allysa Catantan, Charlize Linantud and Pauline Bernate all settled for bronze medals.

Jose said the UST men’s team still have a strong chance to dethrone powerhouse UE while the women’s team can only secure first runner-up.

The team events will start tomorrow at the same venue.
