THE UST Lady Booters came alive from a sluggish start and edged out the Far Eastern University, 2-1, in their opening game in the UAAP Season 79 women’s football tournament at the Rizal Memorial football field Saturday.
After a scoreless first half, Hazel Lustan put UST ahead in the 56th minute off a Charisa Lemoran assist.
Lemoran later outran two FEU defenders to give the Lady Booters another goal six minutes later, 2-0.
“Ni-remind ko lang ‘yung mga players na gawin ‘yung play namin. Magulo kami noong first half,” UST head coach Prescila “Aging” Rubio said in an interview.
The Lady Booters now share the lead in the standings with Ateneo de Manila with both teams having 1-0 records.
Jovelle Sudaria tried to bring FEU back into the game after a free kick conversion in the 77th minute but failed to convert any goals off her three penalty attempts in extra time.
The Lady Booters will face last season’s runner-up De La Salle University on Saturday, Feb. 25, 4 p.m., at the same venue.
