JOHN de Castro’s difficult header off a corner kick punctuated the Golden Booters 2-1 come-from-behind win over the UE Red Warriors in the UAAP Season 79 men’s football tournament at the Moro Lorenzo football field in Katipunan Thursday.
The Red Warriors had a chance to even the score but their attempt in the 77th minute was ruled offside.
The win was a birthday present of sorts for UST coach Marjo Allado, who admitted his players were still nursing from their first two losses.
“So noong half-time, ni-remind ko ‘yung mga players ko na forget about it, focus on the last 45 minutes,” Allado said.
Jo Mallen’s goal gave UE a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute. But UST’s AJ Passion delivered the equalizer in the 42nd.
Up next for the Booters (1-2) is defending champion University of the Philippines on Sunday, Feb. 19, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
