THE DE La Salle University Lady Archers thwarted the UST Lady Booters, 6-2, in the UAAP Season 79 women’s football tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Saturday.

La Salle led from the get-go, scoring three goals in the first half before fending off a UST rally with another three goals in the last 45 minutes.

With UST trailing 0-3, Lady Booter Charisa Lemoran tried to spark a comeback with a free kick conversion in the 47th minute but La Salle scored back-to-back goals in the 52nd and 54th minutes, 5-1.

Lemoran found the back of the net again in the 75th minute to cut UST’s deficit to three. But La Salle’s lead was too big to overcome as Khyren Dimaandal punctuated the Lady Archer rout with a goal in extra time.

“‘Yung play namin dapat is passing game. Medyo nag-panic na sila kasi nagka-penalty (ang La Salle). So, nawala ‘yung composure ng team,” UST head coach Priscilla “Aging” Rubio told the Varsitarian.

UST dropped to fourth place with a 1-1 record while La Salle improved to 2-0, sharing the lead with rivals Ateneo de Manila University.

UST’s Hazel Lustan had chances in the 38th and the 40th minutes but her attempts were saved by La Salle goalkeeper Inna Palacios.

The Lady Booters will face defending champions University of the Philippines on March 4, Saturday, at 3 p.m., at the same venue.
