THE UST Golden Booters crashed to fifth place following a 0-1 loss to the National University in the UAAP Season 79 men’s football tournament at the Moro Lorenzo football field in Katipunan Thursday.
Mike Danieve Arbela zoomed past UST’s defenders and drilled in the lone goal of the game in the 55th minute off a Elmer Sampaga Jr. assist.
NU’s Lawrence Colina and Mark Jojo Marcaida tried to convert in the 88th and 90th minutes but their attempts went over the net.
“There is something wrong with the finishing [and] ‘yung mga players parang nara-rattle,” UST head coach Marjo Allado told the Varsitarian.
UST had a clear shot in the 79th minute but Jopridale Molino’s header went wide.
The Golden Booters, who have a 2-4-1 win-loss-draw record, also tried to pull off an equalizer during the 60th, 63rd and 67th markers but all headers went over the net.
