THE UST Golden Booters trounced the University of the East, 2-0, in the second round of the UAAP football tournament at the Moro Lorenzo football field in Katipunan Thursday.
UST used a strong second half to get back in the Final Four picture as they now share the fourth spot with National University behind a 3-4-1 win-loss-draw record.
Golden Booter Conrado Dimacali secured the win with a nifty conversion over UE defender JR Malayo in the 80th minute.
Renz Paul Gumban drilled in a header in the 50th minute off a Darwin Joshua Busmion assist to put UST up in the scoreboard.
“Right now, the second round is a good start. So sana we finish the second round na maganda rin,” UST head coach Marjo Allado said.
“Hindi na muna tayo maga-aim sa [top] three. [Sa] top four muna tayo.”
UE had clear shot attempts in the 82nd and 91st minutes but failed to convert as UST goalkeeper Zaldy Abraham saved both attempts.
The Golden Booters will face the Adamson University on March 19, Sunday, 6 p.m., at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
