THE UST Lady Booters’ return trip to the finals is in jeopardy after a 1-3 loss to the De La Salle Lady Archers in the UAAP Season 79 women’s football tourmanent at the Moro Lorenzo pitch in Quezon City Sunday.
With the score tied at 1-all in the first half, La Salle banked on Alexi Arrieta and Chelo Hodges’ conversions in the 50th and 80th minutes, respectively, to sweep the first round and earn an outright berth in the championship game.
By virtue of La Salle’s sweep, UST will have to face the third-seeded Ateneo de Manila University in a playoff game for the last slot to the finals.
“Sa first half, medyo relax lang ‘yung La Salle so kami ‘yung nakikitang agressibo. Kaya lang, noong second half, naging aggresive na ang La Salle,” UST coach Prescila “Aging” Rubio said.
Mary Joy Indac put the Lady Booters up in the scoreboard in the 20th minute off a Shelah Mae Cadag free kick before Kyrheen Dimaandal provided the equalizer for La Salle in the 36th minute after outrunning two UST defenders.
UST will meet Ateneo on Thursday, May 4, 8 a.m., at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
“Sana ang realization ko [for the girls,] lahat dapat ng opportunities na binibigay sa amin, dapat gina-grab namin. Kahit man lang nakapag-draw kami, derecho na sanang finals,” Rubio added.
