THE UST Golden Booters suffered a second-half meltdown and lost to the Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates, 1-2, in the 15th Ang Liga tournament at the De La Salle-Canlubang football pitch Sunday.

Lyceum remained undefeated while the Booters dropped to 1-2.

After trailing for most of the first half, the Pirates equalized in the 49th minute with a running goal from Lucino Lansang.

Seeing the gap in the defense, Pirate Dan Paul Alegre found the back of the net in the 62nd minute from cross court to give Lyceum the upperhand.

“We had chances in front of the goal pero ‘yung game namin nung second half, very poor. [We] were not consistent sa game [unlike] last time against UE,” UST head coach Marjo Allado told the Varsitarian.

The Golden Booters drew first blood after Dexter Benecio drilled a goal in the 25th minute but UST was unable to score since.

UST had the chance to tie the game but Ian de Castro misfired in the 72nd minute.

AJ Passion also had a chance to equalize in the 84th minute but lost control of the ball.

The Golden Booters will try to bounce back against the National University Bulldogs on September 3 at the same venue.
