THE UST Golden Booters overwhelmed the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 4-0, on opening day of the UAAP Season 80 men’s football tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Sunday.

Striker Marvin Bricenio scored three of the Booters’ four goals in the seventh, 46th and 55th minutes.

UST’s AJ Passion put the nail in the coffin in the 56th minute after forcing Tamaraw keeper Ray Joyal out of the box.

“Good start para sa UAAP, especially ‘yung scoreline na 4-0. Very organized sa defense and they took advantage sa mga openings,” UST head coach Marjo Allado said.

Allado added the win gave a big boost to the team after taking down last season’s finalists.

“‘Yung three points (sa second half), napakalaking bagay ‘yun especially against FEU kasi tingin nila dati sa FEU, champion, mataas,” Allado said.

Tamaraw Alex Rayos Jr. tried to go for an equalizer in the 37th minute but was blocked by UST keeper Zaldy Abraham.

Rico Andes tried another attempt in the 38th minute but fumbled on the defense of UST.

Up next for the Golden Booters are the Adamson University Soaring Falcons on Feb. 8, Thursday, 9 a.m., at the same venue.
