THE UST Lady Booters clawed back from an early deficit and outlasted the Ateneo de Manila Lady Eagles, 2-1, in the UAAP Season 80 women’s football tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Saturday.
Down 1-0, UST’s Shelah Mae Cadag pulled off an equalizer in the 57th minute before striker Charisa Lemoran gave the Lady Booters the lead nine minutes later with a kick from the top of the box.
“Must-win na kasi ‘yung game na ito. Whether ma-iskoran kami or hindi, kailangan naka-focus kami sa pag-score,” UST head coach Prescila “Aging” Rubio said.
Maria Bernardo drew first blood for Ateneo in the 49th minute after nailing her free kick.
Ateneo’s Martie Bautista almost gave the Lady Eagles the lead after scoring in the 64th minute but was called offside.
UST improved to a 1-1 win-loss card in the tournament.
The Lady Booters lost to the Far Eastern University, 3-1, in the season opener last Feb. 3.
UST will face defending champion De La Salle University on Feb. 14, Wednesday, 9 a.m., at the same venue.
