THE UST Tiger Judokas brought home 20 medals in the Diliman Slam judo tournament in the University of the Philippines-Diliman last June 4 to 5.
UST finished the two-day affair with a 10-6-4 gold-silver-bronze medal haul. In the Juniors’ Division (16-21 years old), the Judokas notched four gold medals courtesy of Heiko Sapi (-66kg), Sherwin De Rosa (-66kg), Jedd Kim (-73kg) and Renzo Cazeñas (-90kg).
Niko Ong (-90kg) and George Kim (-100kg) finished second, while Russel Lorenzo (-55kg), Augustus Bayas (-73kg), and Jolo Atienza (-90kg) took home bronze medals.
Ian Lee (-66kg) won UST’s lone gold in the All-White Division.
The Judokas also collected four gold medals in the Open Belt Division (any age) courtesy of Bayas, Ong, Cazeñas, Robert Quito (-81kg) and Diether Tablan (+100kg). Mafie Saclangan (-66kg), Lorenzo, Jedd Kim (-73kg), and Luis San Diego (+100kg) settled for silver medals, while De Rosa clinched third.
“Ang mga sinasalihan naming tournament ay preparation for UAAP, at syempre ‘yun talaga [ang] pinaka-pinaghahandaan namin para alam namin saan pa kami kulang,” Cazeñas told the Varsitarian.
