Ex-Tigers assistant coach dies at 52

SENEN Dueñas, former assistant coach of the UST Growling Tigers, died today after complications from a chest surgery. He was 52.

Dueñas passed away around 6:20 a.m. at the De Los Santos Medical Center in Quezon City.

Dubbed as the “Drillmaster,” Dueñas served as the Tigers’ drill coach from 2006 to 2015. He helped the Tigers win the UAAP basketball championship in 2006 and make finals appearances in 2012, 2013 and 2015.

Dueñas played for the UST Golden Booters in the 1980s. He did not go into basketball until he was tapped by former head coach Pido Jarencio to join the coaching staff.

He also served as assistant coach for the Globalport Batang Pier in the Philippine Basketball Association.
