THE UST Tiger Softbelles scored their third straight win after squeaking past the De La Salle University Lady Archers, 3-1, in the UAAP Season 79 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Saturday.
Judy Ann Macatangay’s run put La Salle on the scoreboard, 1-2. Shiela Perales then countered with a run-batted-in (RBI) off the center field in the third inning to send CJ Roa back to the homeplate for a 3-1 Softbelles lead.
UST ace pitcher Ann Antolihao sealed the victory by preventing any Lady Archer to reach a base in the last three innings.
“Wala tayong hitting. Nag-full bases tayo, walang out. Na-double play pa. Ang babagal kasing tumakbo,” UST head coach Sandy Barredo told the Varsitarian.
A Perales RBI in the second inning enabled Roa to convert UST’s first run. Jessy Belaño followed suit off a Janah Hernandez RBI for a 2-0 Softbelles advantage.
The unbeaten Tiger Softbelles will face defending champions Adamson University Lady Falcons on Monday, Feb. 13, 1 p.m., at the same venue.
