THE UST Tiger Softbelles faltered against the National University Lady Bulldogs, 1-0, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Thursday.

The Softbelles, who now hold a 3-2 record, have failed to deliver in games that reached extra innings.

Mia Macapagal’s run-batted-in that sent reigning Rookie of the Year Aimee Watson home in the eighth inning broke the scoreless deadlock en route to the Lady Bulldogs win. UST catcher Celestine Palma seemed to have tagged Watson but the umpires ruled the run safe.

The Softbelles wasted their chance to convert a go-ahead run at the top of the eighth with a runner in second base but Hannah de la Torre’s flyball was caught.

UST slid to third place following the loss while NU rose to second with a 4-1 slate.

The Softbelles will face the University of the East Lady Warriors to end the first round on Saturday, Feb. 18, 10 a.m., at the same venue.
