THE UST Tiger Softbelles suffered a 2-5 loss against the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons in the UAAP Season 79 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Monday.
But Softbelles remain at third place with a 5-4 record, behind Adamson University (7-1) and National University (6-1).
UP bolstered its chances of a Final Four spot as it improved to a 3-5 record behind fourth seeds University of the East and De La Salle University which are tied at 4-5.
UST’s Hannah de la Torre and Mallows Garde scored two runs in the second and third innings, respectively. But Lady Maroons retaliated with back-to-back runs from Gelai Peñales and Keith Ferrer at the bottom of the third.
UP’s Chanti Bongat and Maki Cabriana converted another two runs in the fourth inning before Swing de la Cruz put the icing on the cake with a conversion in the fifth inning.
The Softbelles will face the Ateneo de Manila University on Mar. 2, Thursday, 7:30 a.m., at the same venue.
