THE UST Tiger Softbelles pounced on the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles, 7-0, in the UAAP Season 79 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Thursday.
UST capitalized on Ateneo’s poor batting, scoring three runs in the third inning before adding four runs in the following innings.
Jessie Belaño, Lyra Gustilo and Hannah de la Torre all reached home plate in the third inning.
Arrielyn Arreglado and Mallows Garde contributed two more runs at the bottom of the fourth to push UST’s lead to five.
Hannah de la Torre and Shiela Perales put the finishing touches as they converted back-to-back runs to give the Softbelles their sixth win of the season against four losses.
“Sinwerte lang kami dahil pangit catching ng Ateneo. Wala pa rin kaming palo,” said UST head coach Sandy Barredo.
UST will try to solidify its spot in the Final Four as it faces second-seeded National University on Mar. 4, Saturday, at the same venue.
